This function electrically boosts the light sensitivity when there is insufficient illumination on the object. You can set the gain of the video amplifier according to the brightness of the object. Select the setting mode according to your shooting conditions.
Setting the Gain
TOPManual Gain Mode (Manual Gain Switching)
Select the gain level of the video amplifier using the [GAIN L/M/H] selection switch on the camera recorder.
The icon on the screen disappears.
The default positions of the switch are as follows.
[L]:
0dB
[M]:
6dB
[H]:
12dB
You can change the gain value of each position in the menu. Increasing the sensitivity causes the screen to appear grainier.
The camera recorder switches to the Auto Gain mode when the gain value is set to “ALC”.
Automatic Gain Mode (Automatic Gain Adjustment)
The camera recorder switches to the Auto Gain Adjustment mode (fixed at “ALC”), and the gain of the video amplifier is automatically set according to the brightness of the subject.
In this case, the [GAIN L/M/H] selection switch on the camera recorder is disabled.
The icon appears on the screen.
The upper limit of the gain setting value during ALC operation can be set in [Main Menu] [Camera Function] [ALC Limit].
When [Camera Function] [FULL AUTO] [Gain] is set to “SW Set”, the gain value can be altered using the [GAIN L/M/H] selection switch even when the [FULL AUTO] switch on the camera body is set to “ON”.
You can switch to the Auto Gain mode by setting the items in [Camera Function] [GAIN L], [GAIN M], and [GAIN H] to “ALC”.
